Set up a custom domain

Serve your partner and customer portals from your own branded subdomain with guided DNS steps, background verification, and automatic SSL.

A custom domain lets you serve your partner and customer referral portals from your own subdomain — like partners.yourapp.com or refer.yourapp.com — so your program feels like part of your product.

Custom domains are optional. You can launch on the free RewardSpring-hosted domain first and add a branded domain whenever you are ready.

Before you start

  • Access to your domain’s DNS settings (for example at your registrar or DNS provider).
  • The subdomain you want to use.

RewardSpring supports branded subdomains. Apex or root domains and path-based hosting are not part of the setup.

The setup flow

The custom domain screen walks you through a status timeline so you always know where things stand:

  1. Domain entered — enter the subdomain you want to use.
  2. Waiting for CNAME — we show the exact DNS record to add, with a copy button and provider-specific help.
  3. DNS detected — RewardSpring polls for your DNS change in the background.
  4. SSL certificate pending — a certificate is provisioned automatically once ownership is verified.
  5. Domain active — your portals are served from your branded subdomain.

Step 1 — Enter your subdomain

Add something like partners.yourapp.com (for the partner portal) or refer.yourapp.com (for customer referrals).

Step 2 — Add the DNS record

Copy the CNAME record we show you and add it in your DNS provider. Use the provider-specific help if you are unsure where it goes.

Step 3 — Wait for verification

DNS changes can take time to propagate — sometimes minutes, sometimes longer. You do not need to babysit it; RewardSpring checks in the background and advances the timeline as your record is detected and SSL is issued.

Step 4 — Go live

Once the timeline reaches Domain active, your partner and customer portals load on your branded subdomain over HTTPS.

Troubleshooting

  • Stuck on “Waiting for CNAME”: double-check the record name and value, and confirm you added it to the correct domain.
  • DNS detected but SSL pending: certificate issuance can take a little time after verification; the timeline updates automatically.
  • Domain shows a fallback page: domains for suspended accounts or unverified domains are not routed. Confirm your account is active and ownership is verified.

Security notes

RewardSpring validates domain ownership before activation, never routes traffic to an unverified domain, and prevents one account from claiming another account’s domain.
